Vegetables Love Flowers: Companion Planting for Beauty and Bounty [Ziegler, Lisa Mason] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Vegetables Love Flowers: Companion Planting for Beauty and Bounty Review: Book Fell Apart, But Content is Great - I love this author & have all of her books! I also follow her on YouTube. So I was disappointed that the book fell apart almost as soon as I bought it. However, the content is so good that I didnโt want to take away any stars. I have digital copies of all her other books, so maybe thatโs the way to go? Iโm a fairly new gardener who has had more failures than successes with vegetables, although my flowers always do well!! But my flowers only became successfully when I discovered Lisa Mason Ziegler. So I was really excited to find this book! Perhaps Iโll now be able to grow vegetables that arenโt malformed & disgusting! Ziegler provides such great information, including lots of instructional photos. My favorite page is how to make a simple bouquet! Review: An essential book for any gardener's library! - Having found Lisa's previous book, "Cool Flowers" indispensable in planning and implementing a garden full of beautiful spring blooms, I eagerly anticipated the arrival of "Vegetables Love Flowers." It absolutely did not disappoint! Clear, concise and detailed, this book will be valuable to both new AND seasoned flower and vegetable growers for decades to come. In addition to describing how to enjoy a year of beautiful, healthy veggies and flowers, another thing I really love about this book is that Lisa discusses the many benefits of using organic and sustainable growing practices. Her commitment to feeding the soil and protecting and encouraging beneficial insects and pollinators speaks to the responsibility that we all have to be stewards of this good earth. May many more of us be encouraged to inspired to do the same!

Brings historic plantings to modern times
Ziegler started her plant career in the florist business, which quickly expanded to growing her own cut flowers. This book shares her knowledge of how flowers work in the vegetable garden. She gives helpful info on incorporating flowers and food, cutting gardens, pollinators and beneficial predators. Planting flowers in food gardens and orchards is good for production because the blooms bring in important pollinating insects. This has been the practice of gardeners and growers for centuries, and Ziegler shows how to continue the practice with her Virginia property as the backdrop.

Beautiful Book
Very beautiful book with useful information and guides. Recommend for beginner-moderate knowledged gardeners. I have had this book for multiple years and have not had any issue with it falling apart as some others have mentioned experiencing.

Helpful book but the title can be misleading
First off, everyone needs to know THIS BOOK IS NOT ABOUT VEGETABLES. It is mostly about growing flowers for a cut flower business. The tips on seed starting, growing, and harvesting were very helpful in planning my garden. Seed starting includes preferred temperature for germination, which seeds need light to germinate and which need darkness, starting in soil blocks vs trays, and when to transplant outside. Growing tips talk about common diseases and pests, what support is needed, and when to fertilize. Harvesting tips are what stage to harvest at, and how to prolong vase life. Lisa also includes her favorite varieties of flowers here. The sections on attracting pollinators and predators was nice because this topic is usually overlooked. You'll see how to build houses for bees, how to attract snakes and predator birds, and what predator bugs are helpful in the garden. At the end, she includes designs for interplanted garden beds. Lisa has been a flower farmer for over 20 years, she has a wealth of knowledge and I'm so happy she decided to share it with us.

BEST succession planting guide for flowers and veggies! A MUST HAVE!
I've been a huge fan of Lisa Mason Ziegler for a long time since I purchased "Cool Flowers." Her new book, "Vegetables Love Flowers" is a FANTASTIC, yet simple, easy to follow growing guide that helps you SUCCESSION plant vegetables and flowers throughout a the growing season. Her book now explains my successes AND failures from last spring and summer. WOW - multiple lightbulb moments! She even has samples of several flower arrangements - that use half or dozen or less flowers. This is THE book I've been waiting for! ANYONE can grow a little or a lot of simple cut flowers for the season - Lisa, thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your years of wisdom!

A lot of text to summarize something that's quite simple, but it's nice to read her story. Good information, though I had liked if there were more of it.

If you want a book on cut flowers in the garden, then this is useful (ish). Having searched for 'companion planting' and seeing this book come up straight away, I was hopeful that it would cover more detail (i.e. victim plants, plants that repel bugs, plants that aid others regarding nutrients, etc). But unfortunately it didn't. Very disappointed and poorer for it.

Hi there! I cannot recommend studying with Lisa enough! Over the course of the last year I purchased many of the most recommended flower growing books, all which I found a bit thin on content and requiring further research. Reading Cool Flowers was eye opening and very clear on how to plant cool season hardy annuals earlier and when to do it. I also purchased Lisa's other book Flowers Love Vegetables and took her online seed starting course. All are superb and she generously offers many free resources, book studies, podcasts, talks to help to further clarify the content and answer questions! I wrote her company email to further clarify some misunderstanding and had the wonderful opportunity to correspond with Anne who further illuminated me and offered spectacular customer service! If I could I would offer 10 stars!
